SUNDAY, AUGUST 16, 2020- Mount Hood Skibowl, Oregon
The Collegiate Running Association (CRA) and Go Beyond Racing (GBR) announced a partnership to bring the Collegiate Mountain Running National Championship to Mount Hood Skibowl, Oregon for 2020. The 2020 Gnar Gnar Race will be held Sunday, August 16, and along with the Collegiate Championships, the event will also concurrently host the USATF Mountain Running Championships.
We expect a large turnout, so you will want to register early. Like all of our championships, this event is Open To The Public, and offers prize money specifically reserved for college students.
The 2020 Gnar Gnar will be a ~12K (~7.4 Miles) mountain race and for the first time in race history will host the U.S. and Collegiate Mountain Running Championships. This amazing event runs through the mountains near Mount Hood and will leave your lungs burning, your legs screaming, and your face plastered with a giant grin.
You'll climb 2,500 feet to the top of the mountain, where you will have a stunning view of Mt. Hood. This event is at Mt. Hood Skibowl and perfect for spectators, as they can watch you run up the Gnar Gnar Trail, and laugh with you as they watch you ride the alpine slide down. And there are a ton of fun activities at Skibowl so plan on sticking around for the day.
The Gnar Gnar Race is open to the public and one to place on your summer schedule as a destination event. Top runners with compete for $13,000 in prize money ($10,000 in the open category and an additional $3,000 specifically to college students). To be eligible to compete in the Collegiate Mountain Running Championships, participants must either be enrolled in a college course at the time of the race or have completed a course between January 1 and August 16, 2020. Collegiate participants must also be free members of the Collegiate Running Association to be eligible for the collegiate prize money. To qualify for the US Mountain Running Team, participants must be current members of USATF and finish in the top four in the U.S. Championship. You do need to be a member of the USATF to qualify to represent team USA at the 36th WMRA World Mountain Running Championships November 14, in Lanzarote, Spain.
